Fabulous Fun Fete for Fireworks
FAWCO Meets “Mercredis Mysterieux”
I have sworn off early mornings. They just don’t suit me. So why, I asked myself, am I rushing to Gare de Lyon to meet up with a group of ladies bound for Dijon? Because it sounded like a good idea at the time, because I paid my dues and because I can. All these reasons and more. Because a group of women decided to get together and have an adventure – the sum of which would be greater than our individual parts. Our intrepid “Mercredis Mysterieux” leader met us in the train station decked out in the most inspired outfit: red coat, red scarf, red baseball cap. She was a welcome beacon for those inevitable “Where’s my group gone?” moments!
We whisked our SNCF way to Burgundy in the comfort of a toilette-equipped car and gabbed away getting to know one-another. This camaraderie lasted throughout a wine-and-food-from-Bourgogne lunch, after which all participants decided to keep together (as we were having so much fun) and follow the “bronze-owl” trail. It was our own personal walking tour of old-town Dijon. We marveled at the colored tile roof patterns gleaming in the sun, peeked into a hidden courtyard with an intricately carved wooden balcony from the Renaissance, rubbed our hands against the good-luck owl embedded on an obscure corner of one of the Gothic churches, and on every corner found a treasure to share with each other. It was only when the trail markers finished that our group split up. Some to peruse the local museum, others to sit and share a warm drink. Then, back on the train where we had all sworn we’d snooze our way home. But we didn’t. We couldn’t stop talking, sharing life stories and continuing our getting-to-know-one-another adventure. You ask, what does this have to do with FAWCO? This is the heart of what FAWCO represents: camaraderie, networking, sharing the adventure of expat life – the sum of which will be greater than our individual parts.
Thank you to all who have supported FAWCO’s endeavors, be it “Plant the Planet”, “The Oops! Auction” or joining us for the International Fireworks Competition at Chateau Chantilly.
