Dear Fellow AWG Members,
Well, we’re back. La Rentrée is here! It is with excitement, humility and a little abject fear that I begin my role as President. This promises to be a great year. I believe you have a dynamic Board which combines youth and enthusiasm with experience and seasoning.
As you are probably aware, we are changing this monthly Bulletin. This is a big endeavor and we welcome your input. Each member is a valuable part of this team that is AWG Paris. We will continue to produce a physical bulletin. If you like, we will mail it to you, or you can pick up a copy at the office or at a membership event. But … we are GOING GREEN! What does this mean to you? A bigger voice for one thing. We will no longer be constrained by horrendous postage costs to keep the Bulletin to a certain number of pages. So … if you would like to contribute a restaurant report or your musings about a museum go ahead and submit it. Keep it brief and pithy, please. Send along a picture if you like. We will do our best to include all our members’ contributions.
Before leaving for Singapore, former VP Activities Sandi Tonich lined up an impressive list of activities for the fall. The Eiffel Tower on a Saturday night? Why not? Northern Thai Cooking? Why not? A scary cemetery where the shadow of the guillotine still falls? Why not? And, why not think about becoming a member of the Activities Team? Or even the VP? It’s all available. And it’s all good.
We all know that the economy is still problematic. Your Board is determined to weather the storm. To that end, we are continuing our reduced fee membership for women 35 and under or 65 and older. We will also continue the one-month trial membership for your skittish friends who want to put their toes in the water before making the commitment to full membership.
Our Gala was a huge success and a lot of fun last March. Your Board has already started planning for next year’s festivities. Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 26, 2011. Unless your daughter’s wedding is already planned for that date – BE THERE! On second thought, your daughter can always get married another time. Just BE THERE!
Finally, I would like each and every member to know that she is free to call or e-mail me personally. If I can’t answer your question, I will point you to the woman who can. And remember the password: VOLUNTEER. Whatever your strengths and interests, you will find your niche at AWG.
With best wishes for a great September,
Rebecca DeFraites President, AWG Paris
